Final Fantasy X

Have you been waiting for a state-of-the-art Role Playing Game? (That isn’t Runescape :O) I know I have, and we have one here!

Square Enix’s Final Fantasy series is one of the longest running, most productive, most loved lines of games ever. That means each new installment in the series needs to be outstanding - since the company has outdone itself on so many occasions, millions of fans expect each new Final Fantasy to be even better than all its predecessors. Whether they truly end up better is the subject of never-ending debate among Final Fantasy fans, but one thing is certain: Each new Final Fantasy game is something to celebrate.

Its been crystal clear since the very first mention of FFX’s release that it would live up to the reputation that Square Enix has built up for the Final Fantasy games. There have been millions of screenshots, video’s, audio posted all over the internet portraying FFX’s stunningly good looks and its storyline, but it is not enough to look stunning, FFX has to BE stunning since it is Square’s first Role-play game for the PS2. It is obvious to expect FFX to improve upon the aspect beyond the graphics. What is even better is that it actually does do this. Overall FFX is a brilliant game, remarkably well made and offers everything that has made the Final Fantasy Series a great success. At the same time as this FFX has taken the series into whole new directions, refining many of the greatest aspects about the series, such as turn based attack and the character advance system. What makes this game exceptional is that it has a memorable storyline filled with several brilliant characters. But beyond all of this, FFX is a longer and more challenging game than its predecessors (and most other PS2 games)

The hero of FFX is a teenager decked out in clothes suitable only for Spira’s favorite sport Blitzball! Unlike most Final Fantasy hero’s, Tidus is not a shy youth, but rather an outgoing, cheerful person. You may not take a liking to Tidus straight off, but trust me, once you get to the end of the game you will love him – and that is a long way from the beginning. Soon into the game you will meet Tidus’s teammates – Sir Auron, a wise swordsman who was a Guardian along with Tidus’s father, Sir Jecht. Wakka, a huge man with a huge heart! Captain of the rapidly failing Blitzball team ‘Besaid Aurochs’ he quickly warms to Tidus and the become the best of friends! Next up is Lulu, a sultry yet emotionless Black Mage who has the tendency to carry cats and eventually cacti around. Rikku – an upbeat, over eccentric girl with a mysterious past saves Tidus in the early stages of the game. Yuna – a hot young Summoner with a heart of pure gold, she is daughter to High Lord Braska, it is her job to defeat Sin – the main boss of the game. Last but not least, Kimahri, a mix of a human and a blue wolf – a Ronso. Kimahri is very quiet and collected at most times but he can be a fearsome beast in battle!

Final Fantasy X uses an interesting system for Character Advancement that's rather different from that of most such games. Instead of gaining experience levels as you win battles, you gain points that you then use on what's called the sphere grid. The sphere grid is like a large board-game map, though it looks more like a maze. At almost every step of the grid, you'll find points that raise attributes such as strength, hit points, magic power, agility, and more and other points that teach new spells and new special abilities. Along with the tiresome task of working out the Sphere Grid, you also have the Blitzball tournaments you are able to participate in. You play as the Besaid Aurochs, just without Wakka, and are able to take on all the other terams, 8 in total. A nice little mini game, that Square has introduced.

The game is a long and tiresome one that you will not be able to play for just a few minutes. To unravel the story line you will have to, nay you will want to play for hours on end. Some points of the story are touching, some are funny. But in the end it brings it all together to create on huge story of gain, sorrow, love, lust and loss.

And with that, I have just a few more words to say. You will understand if you complete the game.
